About this tour

Pamukkale — literally "cotton castle" — is one of those places on every must-see list: mineral-rich thermal water cascading down snow-white travertine terraces, with the ancient Roman spa city of Hierapolis (founded 190 BC) right beside it. On the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1988, the site offers a well-preserved theatre, a necropolis stretching two kilometres and Cleopatra's Antique Pool with its submerged Roman columns. Air-conditioned coach, breakfast and lunch, guiding and insurance included; the entrance fee is extra. Runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Booking is free — you pay on the day of the tour, with free cancellation.

   Early hotel pickup

   Early pickup: İçmeler 05.00, Siteler 05.15, Marmaris centre 05.30.

   Drive & breakfast

   A comfortable coach ride with a breakfast stop on the way.

   The travertines

   Walk barefoot over the white terraces — shoes are not allowed, to protect them.

4. 4

   Hierapolis

   The Roman theatre, the necropolis and the monumental tomb of St. Philip with your guide.

   Cleopatra's Antique Pool

   See the pool where the queen is said to have swum — and take a dip yourself if you wish (optional).

   Lunch & free time

   Lunch, then time for the local market, cafés and Aegean flavours — the mushroom dishes are famous.

   Return

   Back in Marmaris around 19.30.

Good to know

• Walking on the travertines in shoes is forbidden — you walk barefoot.
• Seats cannot be guaranteed for infants.
• Bring your swimsuit, sunscreen, sunglasses, a towel, a hat and your camera; comfortable shoes are recommended.
